About Buckingham Palace

Many people that visit London are anxious to see Buckingham Palace, the place where the Queen and the royal family reside. This is an occupied building most of the year, so you can't usually go inside, but there is still a lot to see and do when visiting Buckingham Palace. If you are coming from outside of London, most public transportation will drop you off at Victoria Square, right down the street from Buckingham Palace.

If you choose to visit Buckingham Palace during August or September, you will be able to get a tour of the inside of the palace. This is when the Queen is on vacation, so the staterooms are open for tours. If you're visiting at any other time of the year, you can still get a tour of the grounds and the stables, but you won't be able to actually go inside the palace. Even if you don't get a tour, it's well worth it to stop by Buckingham Palace just to get a glimpse of the outside of it.

Another fun thing to do at Buckingham Palace is to watch the infamous changing of the guards. This is the formal ceremony when the guards outside of the palace switch places. It happens at specific times every day, but those times can vary depending on the time of year, so make sure that you check when they will be doing it during your visit so that you don't miss it.
